Nicole Ari Parker (born Nicole Ari Parker) is an American actress, who is employed in both film, television and theatre. She's best known as Teri Joe, the flamboyant lawyer from her role on the Showtime series Soul Food. After her wedding to her husband, she was referred to by the name Nikki Kodjoe. Growing up within Baltimore, Maryland, she was always intrigued by acting. At a Maryland high school contest at the beginning of her training, she was awarded the title for the best actress. In the years following her work in theater, as well as 'The Washington Ballet Company' she graduated with a degree in acting from 'New York University. The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love, her debut performance in a major film, was a huge success and earned her the admiration of many. Contractor was born at Mumbai in India, was raised in Nigeria from the time she was seven. She was already exposed to many different travels and other cultures since a young age. After attending boarding schools during seven years of London, her family relocated to Toronto Canada in which she lived for much of her early years and into early adulthood. Contractor achieved academic success in Toronto while also training as the ballerina. She went to the Etobicoke School of the Arts. It is a special high-school for the arts, in which she didn't just study theater but danced too. Contractor aged 16 at the time she realized that acting would become her profession. She had danced for a decade. She received a full-scholarship grant to attend the University of Toronto after graduating. She earned a master's degree in theatre and double majored in social and psychology. Contractor was cast in her first show after a year of university. The production she appeared in were praised by Canadian critics. The conservatory in Stratford takes eight people, four women along with a couple of other people for a 20 weeks crash course. The role was secured for Contractor in the next play as she was offered the part for the role of Hermia A Midsummer Night's Dream.
